Q: What size foyer fixture is good?

A: Keep in mind the bottom of the fixture should be at least 7 feet from the floor. This will help choose a semi-flush or flush or multi-tiered chandelier. Now for the size, add the length and width for overall area (room) in feet then convert the total into inches. (ex. size 18x14 added is 32 feet total-convert to inches 32 inches wide and that's approximately the size you need) if it is a high ceiling with a window hang it so the light can be seen out the window.

Q: What size down rod should I get?

A: Fan blades should hang no lower than 7 ft. for safety. Hang them where you prefer use this as a guide.   

9' - use 6" downrod

10'-use 12" downrod

12'-use 24" downrod

14'-use 36" downrod

16'-use 48" downrod

18'-use 60" downrod

20'-use 72" downrod

*these are estimates only, the fan height it self must be taken into considreation!                   

Q: How do I size a chandelier for over a table?

A: Same formula as for the foyer, take the length and width and add together. Take that sum and convert into inches and that's about the diameter to use.

If that doesn't seem right due to the size of the table your chandelier should be three quarters the width of the table. Also should hang approx. 30"-32" above the table top.

Q: What Size fan should I get?

A: Fan size, possible location, room size

29" Fan- Bathrooms, Hallways up to 64 sq. ft (8'x8')

36" Fan- Breakfast nooks, laundry up to 75 sq. ft (8'x9')

42" Fan- Sm bdrms, sm kitchens up to 100 sq. ft (10'x10')

52" Fan-Standard bdrms, family rms up to 225 sq. ft (15'x15')

56", 60", 70" -Great rms, large rms up to 400 sq.ft (20'x20') or two 52" fans

Types of lighting

General Lighting: Provides an area with overall illumination.

Task Lighting: Lighting that helps you perform specific tasks such as reading, cooking, homework etc. Pendants are an example.

Accent Lighting: Adds drama to a room by creating visual interest. Such as wall sconces.
